Signs an Animal May Be Living Under Your Shed
A shed or deck with an open gap underneath is prime real estate for wildlife looking for cover.
What to look for
- A worn, smooth entry path in the dirt or grass leading under the structure
- Digging or an excavated area right at the edge
- Droppings near the opening
- A musty odor, especially noticeable on humid days
- Movement or noise from underneath at dusk or after dark
What usually dens there
Opossums, armadillos, and occasionally foxes or skunks are the most common shed and deck tenants in our service area.
What we do about it
Confirm what species and whether there are young present (which changes timing), then trap and exclude, sealing the gap with material the animal cannot dig back through.
